Session description

Travelling from Trinidad to London in 1961 was a life-changing experience for Shango. Hear Shango’s story and reflect on changing attitudes towards immigration, then and now.

Using your school’s preferred online platform, ask Shango questions via the chat box about his ambitious journey and what life was like when he arrived in London.

For this online session in your classroom:

  • A minimum of 60 students will attend all the sessions throughout the day
  • We prefer for two or more sessions to be booked throughout the day
  • Sessions are suitable for both classes and whole year groups to participate
  • Please specify on the booking form your schools’ preferred online platform (Microsoft Teams/Zoom/Google Meets)
  • Supervising teachers must be present in the room at all times
  • By signing the request form, teachers agree to pay a cancellation fee of £180 if they cancel the booking less than 4 weeks in advance
  • If the session is being cancelled due to COVID-19 there will be no cancellation fee. We will do our best to re-arrange your session for later in the term but this might not always be possible.

There are three ways your school can participate:

  • Option 1: Students ask questions directly to Shango by typing into the chat box (for this option each student will need access to their own device)
  • Option 2: The facilitators can see the students and can choose which students will ask the questions
  • Option 3: A teacher will be present in the room facilitating a discussion with the students. The teacher will type in the students’ questions to the chat box.

To request a booking please fill in our online booking form. Our Box Office will contact you to discuss any details and confirm your booking.
